Also known as Masterwort, Astrantia Rubra is held in high regard by florists for its beautiful umbels of starry plummy coloured flowers.  Astrantia Rubra flowers continuously from late Spring through into late Autumn. Each small masterwort flower is made up of umbels of tiny flowers that are framed by a papery bract. An excellent cut flower that also dries well.

Prefers a sunny spot but does tolerate partial shade and prefers to be kept moist. Bees also like this plant.  Astrantia rubra is slower to bulk up that Astrantia major, so don't be surprised to see that these plants are not as large if you have them both. These don't last long, so be in quick if you want one.
