Euphorbia characias subsp. wulfenii

The fantastic thing about Euphorbia characias wulfenii is that it provides year-round interest.  The stunning chartreuse flowers that have purple nectar glands protrude like a bottlebrush on erect stems above the narrow blue-green leaves. Flowering starts from early spring and continues until early summer.

This Mediterranean spurge as it is known is a striking plant to include in your garden as it remains attractive throughout all stages of the growing season.  It is easy-care and thrives in dry, well-drained soils but is also drought tolerant once established although it will certainly appreciate some moisture in very dry summers and is happy in full sun. Butterflies also flock to this plant. Prune flower stems off at the base after flowering - you will also find lots of small seedlings popping up which are easy to remove and replant into other locations.  The sap as with all Euphorbias is poisonous to be sure to wear gloves when handling this plant.
