
Salvia apiana | White Sage
Salvia apiana is a dramatic salvia that is a bushy evergreen shrub boasting striking silvery white leaves that form tight rosettes - the leaves are up to 10cm in length. The foliage is strongly aromatic and exudes a powerful sage fragrance when the leaves are bruised. The dried leaves have for many centuries been used for ceremonial purposes. Spring will see the plant erupt with impressive wands of white and lavender coloured flowers.  Bees and Bumblebees are in love with these flowers due to their hight amount of nectar. A striking plant for a dry garden and looks amazing at night with its reflective night lighting. Â
Grow in full sun - not fussy about soil type but your soil will need to be well drained - this plant hails from mediterranean climates and it usually grows on rocky slopes. Very little water is required is once this plant is established but the occasional water in hot summers will be appreciated
Remove flower stems after flowers. Plants can be propagated by division and removing rooted sections of the plants in early autumn once established.
